Duplicate File Report
Duplicate File Detective goes far beyond the task of finding and removing duplicate files - it provides you with the tools you need to do the job safely, securely, and with unmatched scalability and performance.
Every duplicate file found is presented in a group-based duplicate file report. Each duplicate group is separated visually, numbered, and summarized on hover, so you can see at a glance how many copies of a file exist and how much disk space that group is costing you. Duplicate File Detective never presumes to know which copy is the "original" - it shows you every match it found and leaves the decision where it belongs: with you.
The report carries more than twenty data columns - file name, full path, size and allocated size, created, modified and accessed dates, file owner, content hash, duplicate group index, and (where applicable) music tag, image metadata, and document property values. Sort by any column, rearrange or hide the ones you don't need, and keep duplicate group members locked together while you do it. Report rows can even be color-coded by file attribute, so read-only, hidden, system, and compressed files stand out immediately.
Large duplicate searches are easy to navigate. Filter the results by file name, folder, extension, owner, size, or date - using plain text, wildcards such as report*.xlsx, or range and comparison expressions such as >100MB and 2024-01-01..2024-06-30. The folder view tree adds a second dimension, showing every folder involved in the results with a badge that counts the duplicates inside it (and inside its subfolders), letting you hide entire branches with a single click.
Not sure whether two files really are the same? The built-in preview pane renders images (including HEIC and camera RAW, with the appropriate Windows codecs installed), SVG drawings, the first page of PDF documents, text and source files, and plays audio and video - all without leaving the duplicate report. When you're ready to act, mark the duplicates you want to process and move, delete, or archive them, or export the report for review elsewhere.
