Export & Re-Import Duplicate Search Results

Duplicate File Detective allows you to export duplicate file search results in a variety of useful formats, including HTML, CSV, PDF, XML, and MS Excel.

Each format has its place. HTML produces a browser-ready report styled by a CSS template you can customize (or merge inline for a single self-contained file). CSV opens directly in any spreadsheet. PDF gives you a polished, consolidated document that's easy to print and circulate. Excel writes native .xlsx workbooks without requiring Microsoft Excel to be installed, spilling automatically onto additional worksheets when a result set outgrows one.

You decide exactly what goes into the file. Tick the duplicate report columns you want to include, and the export will honor the report's current sort order and any active results filter - so you can filter down to the duplicate photos over 10 MB owned by one user and export precisely that. Reports can be opened automatically when generation finishes, emailed straight to a list of recipients, and text-based exports can even be NTFS-compressed on the way out.

If you export a duplicate result report in XML format, you may then later re-import those results for additional analysis. XML exports always include every column of data - regardless of the column selections above - precisely so that nothing is lost in the round trip. The import process even restores summary information about the original duplicate scan, including execution time and file counts, and can prune entries for files that have since disappeared from disk so the re-opened report reflects reality.

That round trip turns a duplicate file report into a portable artifact. Run the scan on a file server, carry the XML back to your workstation, and review, filter, mark, and process the results at your desk. Export is also available from the task scheduler and the command line, so unattended duplicate file reports can be produced on any schedule you like.
